Cumbria prepares to celebrate garden festival

Greenhouse and garden enthusiasts in Cumbria will soon be able to share tips and stories at a local horticultural event.

The Holker Garden Festival is set to return between May 29th and 31st, with former Gardeners World presenter Monty Don on hand to offer advice to visitors.

Don, who now writes for the Daily Mails gardening section, explained he is "very much looking forward" to attending the festival.

"It is a tremendous event, in a fabulous setting, which has a distinctive local character that makes it unique," he said.

Set at the heart of 17,000 acres of countryside, the Holker Estate will provide a picturesque venue for the weekend.

Those in attendance will be able to cast their eyes over a selection of UK stalwarts, including roses, carnations and sweetpeas.

However, there will also be a giant marquee containing a number of exotic varieties from around the world, with even carnivorous plants on display.
