Construction market in "a lot of trouble"

Brits planning on adding a conservatory or glazed canopy to their home may be interested to hear there have been predictions of a period of difficulty for the countrys building industry.

According to Construction News, it faces "fairly unprecedented levels of difficulty" over the coming months.

Editor Alex Hawkes stated the sector is in "a lot of trouble at the moment" and noted some parts of the market could struggle to come out of recession for "quite a long time".

This is despite recent figures showing its decline has slowed to its lowest rate in more than a year.

Statistics from the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply, which showed the level of building work in the UK had decreased again, although the level of decline was the least dramatic in 18 months.

"There is an adage in construction that when the UK economy falls by one per cent, UK construction falls by three per cent," Mr Hawkes stated.
