Conservatories can insulate too

It has recently emerged that London is falling way behind in terms of insulating its homes.

Energy expenditure and the environmental impact of homes are becoming ever more important issues with heating bills and global warming grabbing headlines.

According to the London Assembly, the average home could save up to £350 every year by installing even basic insulation.

The shocking figures also reveal that it could take as long as 65 years to insulate every home in London at the current rate.

Homeowners contemplating insulating their homes should not be put off from buying a conservatory.

While older conservatories have the reputation as being draughty and chilly – allowing precious heat energy to seep out of an otherwise well-insulated home – quality modern conservatories, glasshouses and lean-to glazed extensions are much more environmentally-friendly.

London Assembly environment committee chairman Darren Johnson said that mayor Boris Johnson (no relation) should ensure that 90,000 homes are insulated per year.

"Home insulation does not inspire photo shoots in glossy magazines like a new bathroom or kitchen – but those other home improvements will not save money or help cut carbon emissions like roof and wall insulation will," he said.

Mayor Johnsons former election rival Brian Paddick recently appeared on TVs Im A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here. Paddick took exception to dirty tactics by former kids favourite Timmy Mallet when the two had to face-off in a bush tucker trial.
