Community garden project vies for funding boost

The project is run by volunteers, who help elderly people maintain a garden, grow their own food and encourage them to recycle.

A spokesperson for the charity, Be Interested In Portobello Road, said it has big plans for the future and wants to start selling its own produce locally and holding education workshops.

“All the social groups in the area will be able to volunteer on the site and add their slant, so encouraging integration through food and green issues,” they told the London Informer.

If they win the area competition and the £6,000, the charity plans to invest in more plants, seeds, compost and a small greenhouse.
