Celebrities Involved In National Gardening Week

National Gardening Week for 2015 looks set to be the biggest and best event yet, with plenty of appearances lined up by some of the biggest names in the gardening world. If you like your information straight from the horse's mouth, at it were, make sure you don’t miss any of these special events. Here’s a quick round-up of who and what you can expect in some of the highlights of the gardening celebration week.

Alan Titchmarsh

Our favourite gardening TV presenter and author is hosting a couple of events at Frost's Garden Centre in Woburn Sands, so get down there on 18th April to hear the man speak and get signed copies of his books. The day kicks off at 11am, when Alan gives a talk on wildlife gardening, and then another talk at 3pm promises small-garden secrets to help us all make the most of the space we have. In between, book signings take place, with the chance to say hello on a more personal level. Entrance costs £5, but you’ll be helping a charity as the fee is donated to Supershoes, a charity that provides personalised canvas shoes to ill and disabled children.

James Wong

Pop along to RHS Garden Hyde Hall on 13th April, and from 2.30pm to 4pm you can take a cup of tea with James Wong and hear him talk about his new book, Grow For Flavour. The RHS ambassador is also a popular TV presenter, so tickets are sure to go fast. It’s a free event, but because places and space will be limited you need to pre-book, which can do by phoning: 020 31765830

Tania Pascoe

If the decline in Britain’s meadows (we’ve lost 97% since 1930) concerns you, you’ll want be at the Garden Museum on 16th April to hear Tania Pascoe talk about the new wild-garden movement that aims to rejuvenate our wild spaces and bring about a rethink on both nature and food. As well as talking about the new book, Wild Garden Weekends, Tania will be engaging in a discussion and sharing some of her experiences across Britain as she went in search of wild Britain. She’ll be sharing her favourite gardens, flower meadows and cafes with a kitchen-garden slant, as well as answering questions. The standard admission fee is £15, but Garden Museum Friends pay just £10.

Chris Beardshaw

Chris Beardshaw, the TV presenter of such shows as Gardeners' World, The Flying Gardener and Wild About Your Garden, will be in Lechlade Garden Centre on 18 April, sharing his vast experience and knowledge of gardening. As a recently appointed RHS Ambassador, joining other famous names such as Mary Berry and Alan Titchmarsh, Chris acknowledges the skill of gardeners across Britain and says it’s largely down to not just our enthusiasm for gardening, but also our willingness to pass on our knowledge. National Gardening Week is the perfect celebration to do just that, inviting all kinds of people to start what could become a lifelong interest and passion.
