Cardiff to unveil glazed library

Cardiff is set to unveil its new Central Library, located in The Hayes, which heavily features glass in its design.

The £15 million building will open in spring next year and looks set to become one of the citys most recognizable buildings.

Glazed buildings have become extremely popular of late, with Londons Gherkin and Shard of Glass buildings perhaps the most worthy of note.

The iconic library building is designed to look like a bookshelf from a distance and project manager Norman White has praised the design.

"The library has a striking architectural design and is set to become one of the city centre’s most iconic buildings, as well as the most sustainable," he told WalesOnline.o.uk.

"It will be a real focal point for the city."

The Echo reports that the library will become one of the benchmarks for environmentally friendliness in the city.

The glazed façade and roof will help keep the building warm in winter and cool in summer.

Homeowners can enjoy similar benefits by adding a glass extension or modification to their home – providing style while being ecologically friendly.
