Brits planning to stay at home over holiday weekend

New figures show millions of Brits are planning to stay in the UK this August bank holiday.

According to figurers from LV=, almost seven million people will enjoy a staycation over the weekend.

While some may decide to make the most of their conservatory and garden, those who decide to spend their vacation in other UK destinations will spend a combined total of £1.1 billion – roughly £170 per person – the organisation predicted.

Around double the number of adults intend to holiday in Blighty, compared to the eight per cent who will head abroad.

Those deciding to leave the conservatory and garden behind might enjoy camping, caravanning or hotels, the survey found.

Commenting, LV= travel insurance managing director John ORoarke explained the recession is playing its part in people deciding to stay at home.

"The general climate of watching the pennies has not only increased the number of people staying here in the UK but also has impacted on the types of breaks people are taking," he stated.

According to the Met Office, the weather over the weekend will be mainly dry, with showers in the north.
