BBC2 has announced that it is launching a new gardening contest as it aims to capture the spirit and success of “The Great British Bake Off”.

Based around the idea of “kitchen gardeners” – people who grow and eat their own produce, the show will pit pairs of gardeners and cooks against each other. The format will include eight pairs of contestants, filmed over a period of six months. The pairs will compete in creating the tastiest homemade goods.

The contestants will split their skills between the kitchen and the garden, overseeing growing duties of fruits, vegetables, herbs and flowers and turning them into tasty dishes, jams and chutneys. Flowers will be utilised for table arrangements at events.

Judgement will be made by professional horticulturalists in the same style as “…Bake Off”. The BBC will be hoping the as yet untitled show will provide the same success as previous iterations of the format.
