A third of Brits to make Easter a DIY weekend

Almost a third of UK homeowners are set to take advantage of the Easter weekend and use the time to make improvements to their property, a new survey has found.

Figures from M&S Money found 28 per cent of Brits will undertake some form of DIY this week, with 64 per cent saying they prefer trying to do it themselves rather than employing a tradesman.

However, insurance manager Judith Roberts explained people should be wary of taking on more than they can handle.

"Its worth bearing in mind that DIY doesnt always go as planned," she said. "Insurance companies receive many claims involving DIY-related accidents."

Ms Roberts went on to advise homeowners to seek professional advice where necessary and check their policies to make sure they are covered in the event of an accident.

More than four in ten Brits feel less capable of carrying out tasks around the home than their parents generation, according to a recent survey by Halifax Home Insurance.
