Youngster to see garden design become reality

According to the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), nine-year-old Jasmine Fakolujo from Peterborough will see her ideas put into practice at Barnsdale Gardens.

The site is the former home of TV garden and greenhouse expert Geoff Hamilton and is now run by the stars son Nigel.

Her design, which included a den-making area, spiral flower trail and butterfly corner, impressed judges sufficiently to be chosen from more than 250 entries.

Ms Fakolujo and her classmates will be granted free access to the attraction to watch the plans take shape.

She has also been given a bird box and feeder system complete with video camera to spy on the animals as they nest.

The two runners-up were ten-year-olds Thomas Smith and Alice King, who both come from North Luffenham, Rutland.

In other news, the RHS has paid its respects to former president Sir Simon Hornby, who passed away recently.
