This deciduous flowering shrub, also known as Corylus avellana, has a distinctive corkscrew-shaped truck, Tom Oder explained in an article for the Dunwoody Patch.

He urged green-fingered types to really show off this unusual plant and resist the temptation to hide it among other shrubs.

"This is a planter’s plant. Show it off," he stated.

Mr Oder claimed it is an adaptable shrub and is likely to be at home in many a backyard.

"It can grow well in partial shade or a sunny spot that is well drained," the expert added, stating that his is located on a slope in high shade.
