Tool company to offer garden makeover

A gardening hand tools company is set to give community green spaces the chance to benefit from a makeover.

Fiskars is inviting horticulture lovers to nominate sites to be transformed, stating it wants to give something back to local communities.

Its Orange Thumb campaign is also looking for local volunteers interested in helping out with the selected project.

"Given the nature and pressures of urban regeneration, the creation and maintenance of public green spaces is becoming ever more prevalent," explained the companys senior brand manager Wayne Greensmith.

Those who nominate a green space will also be automatically entered into a prize draw to win £250 of gardening tools.

Entries can be made on Orangethumb.co.uk, where gardeners can also pick up growing tips, or by writing to Fiskars.

The Royal Horticultural Society and Waitrose recently began a road show aimed at encouraging children to take up gardening and educate them on growing and cooking their own food.
