The changing face of container gardening

The world of container gardening has changed much over the past few decades, it has been claimed.

According to 9News.com, the greater choice of materials has led to a rise in popularity among garden and greenhouse enthusiasts.

While the traditional terra cotta pots remain popular, their modern alternatives offer a number of advantages.

Plastic and glazed containers are not porous like their clay-based counterparts and therefore do not accumulate white fertiliser salts and minerals on the surface in the same way that terra cotta does.

They are also available in a range of colours, allowing owners to match their containers to the style of their garden and greenhouse.

The article suggested that glazed ceramic pots are worth the extra cost as they can last a lifetime without looking old or tattered.

Gardeners should stock up now on containers for summer, it added.

Meanwhile, Baynet.com has suggested that garden and greenhouse fans in Maryland attend the Garden Smarter series at the Calvert Library.
