Substantial building work adds to property value

Homeowners can increase the value of their property by carrying out home improvements such as installing a conservatory, explains the Telegraph.

The publication notes that while many people are keen to paint and decorate their properties, it is more substantial work – which increases the size of a home – that adds significant value.

Consumers should allow the purse strings to be loosened as it can be tricky to accurately estimate the cost of a building project such as conservatories or kitchen extensions, the newspaper explains.

As such, it recommends that people are "not too stingy" or they could face shocks further down the line.

Concluding, it is also suggested that insurance providers are made aware of an extension as buildings policies may need to be increased to cover the new additions value.

Meanwhile, the Federation of Master Builders recently stated that more homeowners will look to increase their existing living space due to the slowing housing market.
