Search on for Britains tallest tree

A search has begun to find the UKs tallest tree as part of attempts to raise awareness about the British tree industry.

According to Horticulture Week, two lecturers from Sparshot College, who teach the national diploma in forestry and agriculture, will conduct the search.

Steve Woollard and Mark Tansley will use tree-measuring techniques outlined by the Tree Register and will this week measure some mighty plants in Argyll, Perthshire and Blair Castle.

"Its a fantastic project to be involved in," Mr Tansley told the news provider.

"It will be a great experience to climb some of the tallest trees in Britain. Finding a new champion tree would be a huge bonus."

Mr Woollard added that the chance of discovering the new tallest tree in the UK was what attracted him to the search.

While in Scotland the experts may want to check out the Menziesii trees in Reelig Glen Wood, which stretch up to 64 metres, according to countrylife.co.uk.
