The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) is to give gardeners tips on sustainable gardening at its Hampton Court Palace Flower Show, which takes place from July 7th to 12th.

It is asking greenhouse lovers to send in their old pants, boxer shorts and bras in order for them to be used in a fruity summer Grow Your Own campaign display.

The underwear will be turned into containers for growing food such as herbs and vegetables.

"Due to their conical shape, bras are ideal containers for turning into hanging baskets, and if you sew two together, you have what is best described as a hanging bra-sket," explained RHS spokesperson Georgie Web.

Mens boxer shorts will have the legs sewn shut to make larger containers and the RHS explained its earlier tests had found large cup sized bras with no padding are the most useful.

It also recently confirmed gardeners will soon be able to pick up tips from its Rosemoor site after the local council granted planning permission for its new planning centre."ADNFCR-1495-ID-19174188-ADNFCR"
