RHS speaks to John Wheatley

Garden and greenhouse enthusiasts will soon be heading to the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Autumn Harvest Show.

Ahead of the event, the RHS has spoken to exhibitor John Wheatley, who works with Winchester Growers and is no stranger to showcasing his botanical talents.

A regular at the London shows, he helped to design the Home Grown exhibit for this year’s Hampton Court Palace Flower Show.

He explained that visitors to the Autumn Harvest Show, which takes place on October 5th and 6th, can expect to see his exhibit as soon as they walk in the door and that he has really gone for the "wow" factor.

"We’re going to use a range of different plants in with the dahlias that’ll really show them off, so it’ll be very seasonal but with spectacular shapes and colours and forms," Mr Wheatley said.

The expert hinted that he might also do a couple of "high quality floral arrangements" with dahlias, which are one of his specialties.

He added that the flowers are great for autumn and advised growers to deadhead them in order to ensure they get a proliferation of flowers.
