RHS offers gardening tips and event news for August

The Royal Horticultural Society has offered gardeners advice and tips in an article on The Telegraph website. The society also provided information on its upcoming events for August.

Advising gardeners on crops and weeding, the society said: “At this time of year, harvesting fruit and vegetables is likely to take priority. Keep an eye on watering and weeding to ensure a continuous crop. There is still time to sow salads, and now is a good time to start a new lawn.”

Also top on the RHS’s list of August gardening tasks were pruning deciduous hedges, and cutting out the fruited canes of raspberries and hybrid berries to make way for next year’s crops.

The society will be holding its annual flower show on the 4th and 5th August at the RHS Garden Hyde Hall in Essex. Other events include the Great Garden Adventure, which started on the 21st July and will run until 31st August. The event includes a selection of activities for families.
