Rare new Snowdrop Discovered

A rare new snowdrop has been discovered in the grounds of a historic house in North London. The plant has been discovered by an expert who believes that it could be a brand new species. Matt Bishop, who runs a business selling unusual snowdrops at Myddleton House Gardens, discovered the snowdrop during a public snowdrop sale.

The plant has distinctive green markings on the inner segments and outer petals.Mr Bishop said,“These features are not an everyday occurrence and it is most unusual for one toshow good green-marked outer segments and mainly green inner segments.”

With rare and unusual snowdrops attracting immense interest from horticulturalists, this particular snowdrop could have a bright future if propagated. Unusual varieties have been known to change hands for hundreds ofpounds for a single bulb.  The record is currently held by the “Elizabeth Harrison”, a single bulb which changed hands for £725.
