Outdoor project keeps children away from trouble

The project is part of a partnership between the Forestry Commission Wales Woodlands for Learning team and the Rhondda Cynon Taf Prevention scheme and it tries to engage disaffected young people and allow the calming effect of working outdoors.

Forestry Commission Wales education officer Ross Evans said the youngsters work really well alongside the elements and he believes the teamwork skills they learn with the project will stand them in good stead for the future.

“Woodlands provide a stimulating outdoor learning environment and, hopefully, this project with the RCT Prevention team will help these youngsters to go on and achieve something worthwhile with their lives,” he added

Earlier this month, teachers from a school in Ysgol Cynddelw claimed that since children were allowed to learn outdoors, there has been a greater level of engagement and interaction in their studies
