A local newspaper in the north of England has tasked its staff with getting into their greenhouses and gardens in a bid to encourage its readers to grow their own produce.

In the new project being undertaken by the Knutsford Guardian, a number of the papers top team members will get stuck in to their hitherto-unused back gardens and attempt to grow their own fruit and vegetables.

To kick the project off, reporter Gina Bebbington has revealed how she has started to use her greenhouse again as she attempts to grow her own vegetables and thereby not only save herself some money, but also benefit from fresher and healthier organic food.

"I love the idea of cooking and eating what I cultivate in my own garden and now Ive moved into a new house, complete with a greenhouse, I suppose Ive no excuse not to roll up my sleeves, pull on the wellies and dig for victory," she revealed.

She added that she has now purchased and planted a variety of seeds, both in the garden and in her greenhouse, with readers to be kept up to speed with her green-fingered effor
