New world record set at garden and greenhouse site

A renowned English garden and greenhouse attraction recently hosted a successful Guinness world record attempt.

According to the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), its Garden Wisley site asked hundreds of Brits to come along and take part in conker matches.

In all, 502 people fought out 251 simultaneous conker battles – the most ever played at one time and in one place, according to the record books.

The RHS thanked those who came along and wrote themselves into the history books, noting that it would have been impossible to achieve the result without them.

"We had players of all ages joining in, with some families travelling as far away as Sussex to take part," it explained.

The matches took place on the Seven Arches lawn at Garden Wisley on October 31st and were recently verified, meaning those who took part are now world record holders.

In other news, garden and greenhouse fans can now book tickets for RHS events such as the 2011 instalment of the Chelsea Flower Show.
