Gardeners looking to try their hand at some simple vegetable growing may wish to have a go at growing peppers, chillies or aubergines this month.

The seeds can be planted in a single 7.5cm pot and set on a windowsill or in the greenhouse to get them started.

Covering the seeds with a thin layer of vermiculite and attaching a clear plastic bag to the top of the pot should also help give the seedlings a head start, according to the BBCs gardening website.

As the plants grow, they should be given their own pots when they reach two cm and then larger 12cm pots when their roots begin to poke through the drainage holes.

Carefully adding a cane to each pot will also help the plants climb and grow strong.

Gardeners can expect to harvest their produce between July and October after transplanting outside in May.

A warm and sunny spot is best and should help produce tasty peppers, chillies and aubergines."ADNFCR-1495-ID-19065052-ADNFCR"
