LED glass brick wins design award
A light-emitting diode (LED) glass brick is one of the winners at the Red Dot Design Awards 2008.
Online resource Glass on Web speculates that the mirrored block incorporates a ring of LEDs on its inside, adding that the possibilities for use in commercial and residential interior are "mind-boggling".
"Imagine looking at an entire wall built of these LED Glass Bricks, with the square shapes of LED light stretching into infinity and colours changing in countless computerized configurations and patterns," it adds
An international jury of 24 experts awarded 676 of the 3,203 entries with the Red Dot quality label of "good design" – the brick was among 50 to be named "best of the best", the resource explains.
The winners of the awards were announced last week and the award ceremony is due to take place on June 23rd.
Red Dot Design Award organisers note that a wide variety of industrial designers enter their work in the competition every year.
