Lairds of Dixieland to play at Carlisle garden show

Visitors to the Carlisle City Council Spring Show will be able to peruse the stalls and displays while listening to the sounds of the Lairds of Dixieland Jazz Band, organisers have revealed.

The musicians will complement displays of horticulture and floral art as well as exhibitions from the Countryside and Green Spaces team.

For the first time, the show will feature Made in Cumbria traders, who will sell local crafts and food.

"There will be stalls and entertainment to suit all tastes and it is sure to be an enjoyable family day out," promised leader of Carlisle City Council Mike Mitchelson.

More than 40 other traders and exhibitors will showcase their plants and gardening accessories at the event, while children will be able to enjoy their own activities marquee and entertainment from performer Daffy Dill.

The event takes place over the holiday weekend on May 3rd and 4th and is set to welcome thousands of visitors.

Meanwhile, the Royal Horticultural Society recently announced its intention to distribute grants of up to £500 to schools across the country to help establish educational gardens.
