Lack of space may fuel garden robberies

A lack of storage space is leading to an increasing number of belongings being left in their gardens, according to esure Home Insurance.

Recent research by the financial services provider suggests that more than nine in ten (93 per cent) of people regularly leave possessions out in their garden overnight, with garden tools ranking highly among the items being left outside.

Consumers may find that investing in a glasshouse or greenhouse could well provide them with the additional secure storage space they require to keep their belongings safe.

Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at the firm, adds that people should also check to see that they have adequate home insurance cover in place to protect their personal property.

In related news, the Suns gardening editor recently suggested that horticultural enthusiasts eager to prevent their plant containers from falling into the wrong hands try anchoring them to a concrete base.
