Introducing… the ‘TomTato’
Thompson & Morgan have unveiled a new plant that could revolutionise gardening and agriculture forever – the TomTato, a non-GM plant that produces cherry tomatoes above ground, and potatoes below ground, using a time honoured technique known as grafting.
Grafting is used regularly to grow roses on fruit trees, and is even used to grow several types of fruit on the same tree. Trees known as “Fruit Salad” are now producing lemons, limes, kumquats and oranges – others are producing plums, apricots and peaches.
At £14.99 for a 9cm potted plant, T&M are promising a world exclusive that has been in development for over 15 years. This is the first time these plants have been made available commercially, and are projected to be a resounding success.
T&M believe those who have limited growing space, want to maximise their harvest or simply want to impress their neighbours will be their target market. One thing is for sure, home-growing will never quite be the same again.
