Homeowners want kitchen space

The amount of space available in a propertys kitchen is of growing importance to many homeowners, it has been claimed.

Kathleen Bruno, sales and marketing director for property developer George Wimpey in north Scotland, asserts that kitchens continue to grow in significance for many households.

"The styling and functionality of kitchens has become incredibly important to customers," she says.

"Whilst theyre looking for clever cupboard storage and practical layouts to make the most of every available space, theyre looking for a relaxed space for informal family dining."

Those hoping to maximise both the storage and dining space available in their own property might opt for a kitchen extension as a means of adding more room.

The 4homes service from Channel 4 previously suggested full-length glass doors as a means of brightening up a kitchen extension and making it feel airier.

Channel 4 adds that underfloor heating may offer a solution if an extension creates a large space which is difficult to warm thoroughly using existing central heating.
