Homeowners should improve exterior first

Aesthetically pleasing exterior home improvements like conservatories and glazed extensions may boost a homes appeal – something that Homebuilding and Renovating magazine has said every property owner should concentrate on.

The publications assistant editor Melanie Griffiths explained the interior is "is easy to see as a blank canvas", but added most buyers would not be pleased with an unattractive building.

"Anyone looking to maximise the kerb appeal of their home would do well to take a good look at the exterior," she said.

Ms Griffiths went on to say those who were unsure of how to improve the street view of their property should seek expert advice.

Her comments come after English Heritage revealed 83 per cent of conservation areas are being negatively affected by plastic windows and doors, with 31 per cent threatened by unsympathetic extensions.

A bespoke conservatory or glazed canopy may help improve the look of a home in the affected locales.
