Savvy homeowners could soon be using their property to earn money that could help pay for a conservatory or pool house.

The government has announced Brits might soon get paid for generating their own electricity as part of plans to cut 34 per cent of carbon emissions by 2020.

It is set to begin a clean energy cash-back consultation to see whether the idea is feasible.

Furthermore, the cost of building a green energy installation could also be offset by the savings on power.

Westminster is considering a pay as you save scheme, whereby the money that would have gone towards electricity is used as instalments for the green technology.

"A lot of people would like to [install] renewable in their homes, its just having the funding available to help them do it now," explained British Eco Energy managing director Andrew Moo
