Heavy rain causing problems for gardeners and greengrocers

The heavy rain is causing problems for gardeners and greengrocers and may continue into next week with thundery showers, according to the Met Office. The rain is expected to continue over central UK, from North Wales to North Yorkshire and Essex.

Met Office deputy chief forecaster Tony Waters said that the downpour could cause problems.

“We are expecting spells of very heavy and thundery rain across a wide area of the UK in the next few days,” he said.

“Given the saturated ground from the record rainfall in June, this could cause significant disruption.”

Provisional figures from the Met Office have shown that the UK received double the average amount of rainfall last month, resulting in it being the wettest June since records began in 1910.

The rain has caused problems for some greengrocers, who have been struggling to source home-grown vegetables and have had to ship supplies in from Southern Europe.
