Garden and greenhouse growers in Hawaii were able to sample each others produce at a recent event.
According to the Honolulu Advertiser, the new community market in the grounds of Kauai Community College in Puhi, Oahu, is to take place every Saturday from 10:00 until 13:00 local time.
It is a joint project between the college and the Kauai County Farm Bureau that is designed to encourage horticulture fans to grow their own food by offering cooking demonstrations and tours of the community garden.
Visitors can also pick up growing tips, baked goods and other foodstuffs at the market.
Kauai County Farm Bureau executive administrator Melissa McFerrin explained that the event is unique as it brings together all parts of the growing process from seed to finished product.
"There has been such a strong public interest in supporting agriculture and this is one of many ways we can do this as a community," she stated.
Earlier this year, the Kauai County Farm Bureau hosted its annual fair at the Vidinha Stadium.
