Hampton Court – Best in Show

An Australian garden has won this year’s prestigious “Best in Show” prize at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show, just a year after another Australian themed garden won at Chelsea.

“Essence of Australia” was designed by Jim Fogarty for the Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne, and is described by the RHS as “evoking the relaxed feel of Australia and the Australian love for outdoor living.”

Inspired by Aboriginal images, “Essence of Australia” captures the image of the Rainbow Serpent, with a twisted deck that leads visitors through the exotic flora and red sands typical of the country’s Northern Territory and the state of Victoria.

The winner of last year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show, designed by Philip Johnson, featured a billabong and was the first Australian garden to win at the world-famous flower show in over 100 years.
