Growing food naturally becoming more popular

Greenhouses and vegetable patches may be getting more organic TLC at the moment, as it has been suggested there is an increasing interest in growing food.

Bob Sweet, head of shows at the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), made this comment to the Telegraph after the winner at Hampton Court was announced.

Winchester Growers secured the top title for its Growing Tastes Allotment Garden – and Mr Sweet noted there were plenty of "authentic tones" in the space, such a compost heap that appeared to have been there for years.

He added there were more environmentally-friendly gardens featured at this years event, indicating a change in philosophy for the green-fingered.

"It represents a bit of a change at the RHS, because we are used to seeing perfection in horticulture, which can usually only be achieved with a bit of judicious help from some fertiliser," he said to the newspaper.

Greenhouse owners who want to visit the show at Hampton Court have until July 12th to attend.
