Greenhouse lovers invited to strawberry-growing event

The Royal Horticultural Societys (RHS) Garden Harlow Carr is set to be the venue for an event focused on growing strawberries.

Horticulture fans who want to learn how to cultivate the food in their own glasshouse or green space can ask the experts, who will be on hand to distribute tips and advice.

The event takes place on Sunday (July 5th) and lasts from 10:00 until 16:00 BST.

"Growing your own is a great way to encourage all the family to eat fresh fruit and vegetables and enjoy the taste of home-grown produce," explained RHS kitchen gardener at the site Alison Mundie.

She added it is "surprisingly easy" and suggested the exercise and fresh air is also healthy.

The event is one of a number of Grow Your Own days taking place at Harlow Carr this summer.

It comes as the RHS pushes for more Brits to take up cultivating food for themselves and others.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson is also in favour of such an idea and is set to appear at the organisations Hampton Court Palace Flower Show to raise the profile of growing.
