Green home improvement trend

Britains home owners are becoming more environmentally aware when carrying out home improvements, according to a recent study.

Almost one in ten use reclaimed and green materials when improving their property as economic pressures and an increased awareness make green options such as building with recyclable glass more appealing.

According to the survey by Halifax, 64 per cent of UK homeowners would consider using eco-friendly materials in future.

A bespoke conservatory can help make the home more environmentally friendly by helping to heat it naturally, while saving on electricity by allowing natural light into the property.

Halifax Home Insurance head of underwriting David Rochester explained that there is a noticeable fashion for green building.

"There has been a growing trend for Going Green over the past few years in terms of eating, travelling and recycling, and this is now extending to the home as Brits become increasingly eco conscious," he said.

Choosing your building materials carefully can help keep a glazed extension or a conservatory environmentally-conscious with aluminium and glass both being recyclable.
