Glazed Acropolis Museum set to open

It may have taken years to get the go ahead, but the giant glazed Acropolis Museum is set to open early next year in Greece.

Situated in a privileged position, the new museum will offer stunning views of the Athenian Acropolis and Parthenon.

Visitors will be able to admire modern and ancient architecture in a single sitting as well as taking in artefacts that include Parthenon marbles loaned from the British Museum.

Archaeological finds from across the Mediterranean will also be on display when the museum opens in spring.

The glass building replaces the former museum, which closed in June last year.

Combining modern glazed architecture with classic stone-based buildings is becoming a trend in the building world.

Renowned architect Frank Gehry recently renovated the Art Gallery of Ontario in his native Canada using a similar concept.

UK homeowners can achieve their own architectural masterpiece by adding a bespoke conservatory to their property.
