Gardening kid beats the adults

A 10-year-old with an enthusiasm for gardening has beaten off all competition to be named Wigans best gardener.

Lewis Gray has been gardening from the age of seven and put his three years experience to use in designing and growing the winning garden.

Lewis scooped the prize of £150 worth of gardening vouchers and the title of Top Gardener in Wigan Observers Wigan In Bloom competition.

The Woodfield Primary School pupil was clearly delighted and thoroughly deserved the award, according to his mum, Allison.

"He deserves it because he works so hard with his gardening," she told Wigan Today.

"We are really pleased."

Lewis is turning into quite the entrepreneur as he has since sold hundreds of self-made hanging baskets.

His ambition to become a professional garden designer looks to be within reach; he has already designed his parents garden and is looking forward to his next design challenge.

He grows his own fruit and veg and looks like he will have a bright future in the gardening world.
