Gardeners asked to nominate green space for makeover

Gardening enthusiasts have been asked to nominate local green spaces they feel could benefit from a spot of assistance.

Hand tool company Fiskars is looking to offer communities the chance to apply for a horticultural makeover.

The Orange Thumb campaign will take nominations either through post or online at Orangethumb.co.uk.

Its website also offers tips on gardening and those who nominate a green space will automatically be entered into a prize draw to win £250 worth of equipment.

"Given the nature and pressures of urban regeneration, the creation and maintenance of public green spaces is becoming ever more prevalent," explained the companys senior brand manager Wayne Greensmith.

Fiskars is also looking for volunteers to help make the projects a reality, with those interested in helping out being urged to sign up online.

It follows the recent reports in the Sun newspaper that pop star Britney Spears has taken up gardening for therapeutic reasons.
