Gardeners feeling in a charitable mood over the Christmas period may be interested in doing something to help out Greenfingers – the national charity of the gardening industry.

The charity has made a plea to any garden centres planning Christmas grottos to help it raise the required money to provide ten hospices around the UK with gardens.

But keen gardeners can use their own gardens and greenhouses to help out too.

People are often keen to look around beautiful gardens, especially if there is a Christmas theme for the kids, and taking a small donation for Greenfingers could go a long way to helping it reach its target.

"Although we realise that this is very short notice, we are hoping that some centres will be able to help support Greenfingers in its invaluable work creating magical gardens for childrens hospices around the UK," charity chairman Richard Jackson explained to Horticulture Week.

"There are currently ten hospices around the country that urgently need our gardens and we are keen to raise as much money as possible over the Christmas period in order to start creating these much needed gardens.""ADNFCR-1495-ID-18840456-ADNFCR"
