Garden centre set to build huge new greenhouse

The Wyevale Garden Centre in York has submitted plans to build a huge new greenhouse at its current site.

The plans include access to the adjoining Wheatland Community Woodland, which has more than 5,000 named trees.

A spokesman said the new building would benefit the general public, with school children and local groups being able to enjoy access to the woodland.

"The current buildings are nearing the end of their useful life as garden centre buildings as they leak, are very poorly insulated, and energy inefficient," he told York Press.

"The redevelopment of the site will not only allow Wyevale to compete with other major garden centres in the region, but it will also allow Wyevale to maintain its role as an important leisure destination and employment provider for the York area."

The new design will address issues with the current building, providing a well insulated, watertight environment for staff and the centres plant life."ADNFCR-1495-ID-18798051-ADNFCR"
