Edinburgh nightspot makes innovative use of glass

A period of major renovation at Edinburghs renowned Opal Lounge has produced luxury glass fittings including a cubed wall mosaic.

The glass feature has been positioned behind the DJ booth and will emit sky light patterns across the club while doubling as mirrors as the music plays.

In addition, bauble glass gold sheets have been installed on the walls of the club behind tables laden with black glass. The look is intended to be decadent and rich, rivalling the best night spots in London.

David Johnston, development director at Montpeliers (Edinburgh) Ltd, the firm behind the design, said: "It was time to inject some exclusivity back into the place and make it reflect the very height of luxury today and make that accessible to Edinburghs party set."

While the glass designs are intended to form the centrepiece of the renovations, the clubs VIP area has champagne buckets built into the tables, with black velvet curtains giving privacy to parties.

The Glasgow Herald reports that another top nightspot in Edinburgh, the newly opened Picture House, is likely to shake up the rock movement in the city.
