Conservatory features in UK building must-see list

The largest conservatory in the world has been included on a list of the top 20 must-see buildings in the UK.

Dorling Kindersley Eyewitness Travel Guides has included the Eden Project among the top structures in the UK to visit.

Built in 2001 in the remains of a china clay quarry, the facility is home to a number of Biomes – one of which is the planets largest greenhouse.

Other glass-rich structures that featured in the rankings included the Gherkin in London.

The edifice, which dominates Londons skyline, uses 24,000 sq m of glass, with only one curved piece, online resource Easier reports.

Spiralling lightwells in the structure – which is able to provide 360-degree panoramic views of the capital – are used to maximise natural ventilation.

The Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth – which provides panoramic views of the Solent and features Europes largest glass floor – was also featured on the list.
