Conservatories a sound investment

Brits investing in a conservatory should find it is a savvy choice, it has been claimed.

According to Ratedpeople.com, the home improvement should pay for itself within five years through its effect on the propertys value.

Commenting, Homebuilding and Renovating Magazine editor Jason Orme explained a conservatory is one of the best ways to add space and value to a house.

He stated that homeowners should be wary about choosing a glazed extension based on price, hinting that a poorly-designed product would be unlikely to add anything to the price tag of a property.

"But a really well-designed individual conservatory added on to any kind of house will add value," Mr Orme added.

The Ratedpeople report suggested a ten per cent increase in overall floor space – such as that created by adding a glazed extension – could increase the propertys value by five per cent.

It showed the average cost of an extension is £19,922, but could add £25,590 to the homes price tag.

Furthermore, a typical £15,766 loft extension could ad £24,981 – a 158 per cent increase on cost.
