Confused.com: Ensure sheds are protected

With the total average worth of garden equipment standing at around £800, it is wise to be vigilant when it comes to shed security, Confused.com asserts.

The price comparison site explains that many horticulturalists fail to lock their sheds at all, or only have minimal security measures in place.

Simon Lamble, product director as Confused.com, comments: "It is imperative that, when taking out home insurance policies, homeowners consider the contents of their sheds, garages and any other outbuildings, and insure them accordingly."

Confused.com offers a number of hints and tips on how to help protect sheds and other garden outbuildings – such as greenhouses and glasshouses – from theft.

These include considering buying a shed alarm and having sensor-activated floodlights that illuminate parts of the garden, as well as anchoring the shed into the ground.

Meanwhile, insurance providers NFU Mutual recently carried out a poll which suggested that 33 per cent of respondents had been the victim of a garden theft.
