Christmas gifts for the discerning gardener

It’s often the case – perhaps the man or woman with everything, or the one that’s so particular it’s hard to find just the right thing?

If you’re buying for a gardener, you’re lucky to be able to choose from a whole host of items.  Go to any garden centre right now and they will be decked with, not only Christmas trees – real and artificial – but freshly made wreaths of flowers, fruit and berries, cyclamen, grow-your-own kits of all kinds and garden tools.

The larger centres even sell toiletries, games, stationery, clothing, jewellery, home furnishings and handbags.

Food wares may be on offer and if you’re really stuck for what to buy, you can get a gift voucher.

Online there are many good sites that you can browse to find the perfect gift for your gardener friend or relative.  The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), who honour Gabriel Ash by selecting our greenhouses as the only ones they endorse, have a Christmas gift guide online.

Each of their four RHS gardens also has Christmas shopping events to help you choose something for your special gardener.  They are offering membership of the RHS for £49 for a year, which will give you free days out at more than 80 UK gardens, discounts on tickets to RHS Flower Shows, and a free magazine  – The Garden.

For the lady, or man, who loves to see amazing flower displays, the RHS sell tickets to flower shows such as Chelsea which will be celebrating its 100 year anniversary in 2013.

The RHS sell a Eucalyptus growhouse, perfect for the grower who loves the aroma of the leaves and speed of growth that makes eucalyptus one of the fastest growing hardwood trees.  This has helped make eucalyptus suitable to produce biomass for renewable energy.  Though you may not have many friends or relatives with biomass factories in their sheds, the trees can create an attractive screen in the garden – your friend will need to look into the care of these trees if they raise them well enough to plant out.

A book on Latin for gardeners, powerful gardeners’ hand cream, flower prints and gold leaf gardening gloves are all available from the RHS.  So whether you go local, go online or look at what Gabriel Ash has to offer, make sure you get what your loved one wants this Christmas.
