Charity gets new conservatory

A Torquay charity has opened a conservatory cafe and meeting place for young people with mental health and drug and alcohol problems.

The £50,000 Cool Recovery conservatory was funded by the charity Wooden Spoon and was opened by David Trick of Bath, England and Barbarians rugby fame.

Visitors at the opening enjoyed a Devon cream tea in the conservatory and watched as Mr Trick unveiled a plaque naming the conservatory The Wooden Spoon Conservatory.

"In the 25th anniversary year of Wooden Spoon it gives me great pleasure to open this much needed facility which will provide the additional space needed for people to meet and receive support," he said.

Wooden Spoon chairman Bruce Priday explained that the conservatory would truly benefit the users of the charity.

"Team Devon Wooden Spoon is delighted to have been involved in this very worthwhile project which aligns with our objectives to embrace the problems of children and young persons who are disadvantaged either physically, mentally or socially," he said.

A conservatory can be seen as the ideal environment in which to relax and discuss any issues in a stress-free situation.
