Carlisle gardening show set to take place in May

Next month sees the Carlisle City Council Spring Show take place, with a range of floral and horticultural displays on offer for gardeners to take tips from.

More than 40 traders and exhibitors will showcase their plants and gardening wares, while this year will also see Made in Cumbria food and crafts traders invited for the first time.

Those with children need not worry about finding a babysitter as they will be welcomed at the event with an activity marquee and entertainer Daffy Dill.

Visitors will be able to peruse the horticultural displays from the Countryside and Green Spaces team, listening to the Lairds of Dixieland Jazz Band.

"There will be stalls and entertainment to suit all tastes and it is sure to be an enjoyable family day out," promised leader of Carlisle City Council Mike Mitchelson.

Adults will be charged £2.50 entry, while accompanied children will get in free to the event on May 3rd and 4th.

Kids around the country could soon be showing an increased interest in gardening after the Royal Horticultural Society announced it is to make grants of up to £500 available to schools looking to build their own green space.
