Bonsai fans hope to impress at Chelsea

The Federation of British Bonsai Societies is hoping to impress the gardening enthusiasts and judges at next months Chelsea Flower Show.

This year, the organisation has prepared a floral marquee that showcases numerous types of bonsai trees from the Swindon area.

Last year, the bonsai federation won silver for its overall display and has been awarded gold on more than one occasion in recent years.

Federation chairman Reg Bolton told the Swindon Advertiser that the best thing about the gardening show is the camaraderie and upbeat atmosphere.

He continued of the specialist gardening pastime: "Weve had a stand at Chelsea for the last 11 years and have always won a medal. It is the most important show in the gardening world and it is a privilege to take part.

"We are going to be displaying trees in the nearest natural form we can, try and emulate full-grown trees and they can range anywhere from six inches to about three or four feet."

The Federation of British Bonsai Societies is the chief co-ordinating body for bonsai clubs in the UK and is often seen representing its members at large national events.
