Autumn brings colourful delights

Former presenter of TV shows such as Gardeners World and Home Front Diarmuid Gavin, writing in his blog for the Daily Mirror, said the autumnal weather adds an extra dimension of excitement to gardens well into the winter months.

Mr Diarmuid said plants and shrubs such as pyracanthas, beauty berry, the spindle tree, hippophae rhamnoides and the guelder rose all help to make your garden beautiful even during the harsh months ahead.

“They are not only of great ornamental value, but wonderful sustenance for birds and other wildlife as they forage for the long, cold winter ahead,” he continued.

Gardeners World’s Pippa Greenwood recently wrote that autumn is the perfect time to plant deciduous trees and shrubs as warm soil and moisture promotes good root development
